Upside Down Tarot Cards: What Do They Mean?

Upside down tarot cards are commonly referred to as reverse in the world of tarot. A lot of readers have a misconception the upright is positive and reversed is negative. That couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, the upright and reverse meanings of a card are rarely opposites. They sometimes take on completely different meaning when they appear upside or can show the other side of the situation your reading is describing.

A great example of this is the Six of Cups. Upright this card shows youthful exuberance and pleasure. In reverse however, it shows great maturity and sometimes boredom. It is the difference between good times ahead and being stuck living in the past. Not exact opposites, but the tone of the reading changes immensely with the flip of a card.
